Consumer research told us something rather shocking about Toys “R” Us. Many moms were ‘surprised’ that Toys “R” Us sold bicycles. They were surprised because they hadn’t visited the store in years. They didn’t know the Toys “R” Us product offering. How could they? This alarming piece of information told us what we needed. Toys “R” Us’ advertising urgently needed to become an experience of the store itself.

We partnered with YouTube legend Daniel Hashimoto, creator of the hugely popular ACTION MOVIE KID channel, to create a truly exciting and different holiday campaign for Toys “R” Us.

The Escape Pod launched the Toys R Us Toy Channel on YouTube. The Toy Channel became the go-to destination for exclusive, original and entertaining programming for kids and families on all things toys. Over 100 videos were produced that showed kids demonstrating the hottest toys in action as well as interviews with world-renown toy designers. We also created a masthead ad that ran for 24 hours on YouTube homepage to promote the channel. A “Buy Now” button also was included in many of the videos using YouTube annotations to drive e-commerce sales. The Escape Pod created the content strategy, developed and produced the videos, and managed the experience.
